Mark Nicholson took an interest in Natural Therapies in 1976 whilst serving in the Northern Territory Police as a Detective, Law Instructor, and Physical Training Instructor. However, after starting studies in Law and Political Science at the Australian National University in 1979 his interest developed into yoga, meditation and spiritual healing.

In 1985 he was appointed Legal Appeals Officer, Australian Public Service, Canberra, ACT until 1986 when he took up formal studies in Natural Medicine in Cairns, Queensland.

As his studies concluded and his experience developed, in 1992 he joined the All India Medicos Society, Hoshiarpur, India as a Homoeopathic Medical Practitioner; and was later Managing Director of the Australasian Institute of Naturopathic and Homoeopathic Sciences, Queensland.

In 1993, he was appointed Executive Representative, Industry Code Committee of the Nutritional Foods Association, following the 'Report of the House of Representatives Standing Committee Committee and the Trade Practices Commission' requiring a viable code for self-regulation of the Nutritional Foods and Natural Health Industries. Later he took up the position as Chairman of the Self-Regulation Task Force of the Natural Medicine, Chinese Medicine and Natural Therapies Professions of Australia.

In 1994 he authored the Constitution of the New Zealand Charter of Health Practitioners, and became a Chartered Natural Medicine Practitioner in New Zealand.

In 1996 he obtained the Civil Award: ‘The Australian Service Order’, elevated to Officer (ASO), with the citation: ‘Outstanding Service to the Community and Natural Medicine: for Service to Australia’; in part due to his work in Natural Medicine with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Far North Queensland.

In 1998 he authored the law text “Drink Driving: The Law in Queensland”, Law Book Company, Sydney, 1998; and "Nicholson's Law Notes on Police Operational Statutes in Queensland": Domestic Violence.

In 2001 he held the position of Chief Executive Director of The Indigenous Cultural Alliance of Australia and New Zealand, and is presently Ombudsman for the Maori Constituencies in Australia, under the auspices of the Australian Marae at Beerburrum, Queensland; appointed in 2001 by the Rangatira, 'Nohotatara’.

In 2001 he took up appointment as Lecturer, Queensland University of Technology, Kelvin Grove, in the subjects ‘Introduction to Criminal Law and Evidence’, ‘Applied Justice Research’; and ‘Organised Crime’, each being components of the Degree ‘Bachelor of Justice Studies’.

After holding a position as Deputy Chief Executive Director, Griffin Pharmaceuticals, Queensland, he later took up lecturing in Queensland in various subjects in Natural Medicine in 2003.

Mark is presently appointed "Head of Studies: Naturopathy" within the College, and is located in London U.K..
