Dr. Amanda Neill

B.Sc., M.Sc., MBBS., PhD., FRACBS

Dr Amanda Neill holds both medical and science degrees with specializations in research in areas of ANATOMY, PATHOLOGY, HISTOLOGY and ERGONOMICS. As a function with functional anatomist she has for years explored the relationships between structure and function on several levels. During her PhD (immunopathology of cerebral malaria) one of the major conclusions in her investigations into cerebral malaria was that the structure of the retinal and cerebral (brain) blood vessels was one of the major reasons for the fatal presentation of cerebral malaria so that structure no matter how small MATTERS!!! Amanda developed the only accredited RACGPs program on the pathology and functional anatomy of the back. Accredited n both GMP and classic clinical science teaching and facilitation, Dr Neill has devised the anatomy curriculum for Macquarie University and was responsible for the maintenance of the classic anatomy course at the University of Sydney, working with the previous head and originator of that course.

Anatomy and the other pre-clinical medical sciences taught alone or in an integrated curriculum present a challenge to the student, and the exploration of various teaching modalities in different surroundings and for different applications is one of Amanda’s passionate research interests. Her A to Z series of pocket medical reference guides has now found its way onto the desks of most GPs in Australia and overseas. She is currently researching other teaching modalities, the role of anatomy in related and other fields, and the prevention of malaria. She brings to Everest College along with the other staff members a desire to impart knowledge in the most useful and functional ways and it is hoped that students with this new found knowledge will continue in this colossal tradition.
